Lockdown has forced us all to overcome our fears and get in front of a camera – how many Zoom or Facetime calls do you do every day? So let’s refine your new talent and put it to good use! It’s the closest you’ll get to face-to-face contact for a while and the best way to keep things personal.
We’ve anticipated a few questions you might have:
- What video content should I be making?
- What equipment do I need?
- How do I get something that looks ok?
- What do I do when with the content?
We caught up with our friends and video experts Chris England and Matt Lee from Property Video Solutions to get some answers for you. Here’s what they had to say. Obviously we’ve made a video with their answers and tips in:
What sort of content should agents be making right now?
- Virtual tours - using footage sent to you by your clients you can edit together clips to create property tours
- Market updates - talk to your customers and your community about the market but also about community matters
- Zoom interviews with local heroes and local businesses finding out how they are coping and what they are doing at the moment
What equipment do I need to get going?
- You can get going with just your phone
Other nice-haves but non-essentials are:
- A tripod and a phone bracket would help you to stabilise your footage
- A microphone - you can use a directional mic or if you are talking to the camera a lapel mic

How do I make it look good?
- The people watching your videos at the moment aren't George Lucas - don't worry just make stuff and put it out there. The more you do the better you’ll get.
- If you want to edit your content you can get a free app like iMovie and or Adobe Rush and have a play about
- Looking at the viewer is important if you are talking to the camera - try covering your face with a post-it note and putting some blue tack near to your camera lens so you are looking in the right direction
- Make sure you are well-positioned - central and not too low or too high
- Try to ensure that you film against a clean, uncluttered background – you want to make sure you’re the star of the show!
Now you have the content, what should you do with it?
- Post it on your social channels
- Make sure you post natively - ie to each platform individually for maximum exposure
- Don't worry about the number of views just keep going!
