Nick Neill - If men are from Mars and Women from Venus, where are the best estate agents from?

I was asked the other day for my opinion around a question surrounded by potential controversy.

Here is my honest answer based on my experience as an agency franchisee and as the MD of EweMove.

A friend asked the question, ‘Who makes better estate agents, men or women?’

Before I put my neck on the block, I want to clarify that given the limited space I have within this article, this is based on what I’ve encountered over the years and is my humble and honest opinion.

Men and Women Agents

Well, there are definitely distinct differences in how both sexes approach agency work.

Men tend to be more transactional in their approach to agency.

Where women are often better relationship builders.

Female agents are usually better listeners, where men are more system-based and process-driven.

Males can be more financially driven, where females often shine in the sales arena.

So, the $64,000 question - who are the better agents, men, or women?

Drum roll, please – the winners are……all the above.

And it’s not a cop-out. Let me explain why.

Being a good listener, relationship builder, logical thinker and caring, results in an empathetic operator, which isn’t a skill set exclusive to just men or just women.

Neither is a hard-working attitude, resilience, and a growth mindset.

The best agents possess all those above skills and more.

We have a real gender mix among our top ten performing agents. But we’re conscious that we want to attract more women franchisees because they do excel with us, when they do take the plunge and make the decision to go-ahead, by backing themselves, which is often the only barrier to their success.

What do you think are the main differences in the way that men and women estate agents operate?

Or should we be simply asking what makes a good estate agent?

Thanks for reading.
